Manafort Brothers Inc. was selected to perform comprehensive asbestos abatement, hazardous material removal, and controlled demolition services at multiple active locations as part of the transition to an Open Road Tolling (ORT) system. ORT is a cashless, free-flow toll collection method that eliminates traditional toll plazas and allows vehicles to travel at highway speeds beneath overhead gantries, where tolls are electronically processed without stopping or slowing down.
The project scope included the demolition and removal of existing toll facilities and infrastructure identified in the contract documents, including structures, canopies, toll booths, gantries, traffic islands, treadle pits, scale pits, and associated tunnel and utility buildings to specified below-grade limits. Removal of these elements was critical to supporting the conversion to a free-flowing toll system that improves traffic safety, reduces congestion and emissions, and allows for new access points along the corridor.

Work was executed across several operational sites, including Mid-County, Fort Washington, Bensalem, and Willow Grove. The multi-site nature of the project required detailed planning, phased sequencing, and close coordination to maintain site safety and operational continuity throughout the duration of the work.
All abatement, demolition, and material handling activities were performed in strict compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations, and the project was completed safely and on time.
