The Garrahy Courthouse Parking Garage project involved replacing an existing surface parking lot with a 7 tier, 1284 parking space garage in downtown Providence, RI adjacent to the Garrahy Courthouse. This parking structure included a basement level for Judge parking while the upper levels were intended for courthouse personnel and public parking. Manafort Brothers, Inc. was selected to perform the civil & utility work on this complex earthwork project.

Manafort’s civil scope of work included site demolition, design and installation of rammed aggregate pier and rigid inclusion ground improvements, design and installation of earth shoring, implementation of a complex dewatering system, mass excavation, soil disposal, structural excavation and backfill for the garage foundations, and grading for the slab on grade. The site finishes included asphalt pavement, concrete sidewalks, stamped concrete driveways, curbing, bollards, signage, and pavement markings.

Manafort’s utility scope of work included furnish and install of oil/water separators, sanitary sewer connections, storm drainage upgrades, domestic water and fire service connections, gas service, electrical and telecommunication duct banks, transformer pads, and site lighting.

The urban site constraints coupled with a high ground water table created logistical challenges that required diligent coordination and scheduling between Manafort and the Project Team. All work was performed safely, successfully, on-time, and on-budget.
